When men and women reach middle age, they sometimes begin to experience health problems, from joint or muscle issues, to digestion, heart problems, etc. Or their health problems worsen, as minor issues they’ve had for a while become a more urgent problem.
In Western society today, most people generally address these types of issues by going to an M.D. and seeking help. In reality, in many cases, modern medicine actually does not cure the problem, it only masks the symptoms. I have actually proposed this to a few M.D.’s, and they admitted that it was true. One was a dermatologist I saw just last week for some minor issues. I told her that I didn’t want some ointment to clear things up, but I wanted a cure. She looked at me and said “In dermatology, if we can’t remove the problem by cutting it out, all we can offer is something to help relieve the symptoms.”
Now, I’m not saying that standard Western medicine, technically known as “allopathic” medicine, is of no value. I am saying, however, that in some cases, you can heal yourself without drugs or surgery. In addition, A Johns Hopkins study released in May, 2016 revealed that errors made by medical practitioners are the third-leading cause of death in the country, accounting for 250,000 fatalities a year, right behind heart disease and cancer.
So, how can you use natural healing in your life?
To start with, I would suggest that you keep your diet as clean as possible, and that you take care of your body including getting enough sleep, and enough exercise. Even though we don’t normally think about these activities as part of “natural healing”, in fact they really are. If you’re eating junk food, getting poor sleep and not getting exercise then you’re not giving your body what it needs to heal itself.
The next step is to use natural products to support your health. I know the term “natural” is overused a lot today, so I’d better explain what I mean. I believe that everyone should take a vitamin supplement. I’m aware that there have been lots of studies that say vitamins are not needed. But then again, there are studies that say that they are beneficial.
I would agree that if you have a perfect diet, and are getting the 9 servings of fruits and vegetables every day which is recommended in the Dietary Guidelines, and they are all pesticide and herbicide free, and were raised in fertile soil with all of the required minerals, etc., as well as a perfect balance of fiber, complex carbohydrates, protein etc. that you don’t need vitamins.
But are you eating like that? Probably not. To me, vitamins and supplements are like insurance. In the event that your body is not getting enough of some nutrient, or it’s not utilizing some nutrient efficiently, then the supplement will help take up the slack. Personally, I strongly suggest using “whole food” or “food-grown” supplements. The supplements provided by Garden of Life or New Chapter are pretty-good, but I believe that the best ones are from Whole Earth & Sea. You can usually find them at your local health food store, or online. If you shop online, be sure to compare prices.
Now, let’s get into specific problems that you may have such as arthritis, digestive problems, poor sleep etc. The first place that I would go for an issue like that would be to a great website which is at https://www.earthclinic.com/. On this site you can search for specific problems and then see not only suggested remedies, but feedback from people who have tried them.
Do beware that there are many Websites which are promoting remedies for ailments because that Website is selling them. This doesn’t automatically mean that the remedy is bad, but it may or may not be the best one for you. If you find a remedy that seems good, use your search engine and look for other reviews of that product.
Another thing you can do is to go to your local health food store and look for remedies for your ailment. In some cases a store will have someone working there who can give you advice on what particular supplement their customers are using and buying a lot of for that specific ailment. In addition, some health food stores will allow you to return a supplement if it didn’t help you.
I do want to emphasize that in working with natural healing you may have to try a number of supplements before you find the relief you need. Don’t give up after just trying one or two. So, let’s say that you have a problem with arthritis, and you’ve tried a number of supplements and not had the relief that you want.
The next step is to go to a natural healing practitioner. I have had good luck with going to see an O.M.D. (Oriental Medical Doctor). Besides the use of acupuncture (which isn’t that painful), OMD’s also use Chinese herbs as well as methods such as cupping, Gua Sha, moxibustion, and Tui Na. In fact, at this writing, I’ll be seeing an OMD in two days.
If you’re having problems with your back, then I suggest you visit a chiropractor. Unless your problem is something that just came up, such as hurting it helping someone move, then your chiropractor should probably be suggesting you do some work on your own in addition to getting your adjustments from him. That work may include things such as stretching or some exercises to strengthen your body. If the problem just came up, then he may suggest things such as cold packs, warm packs etc.
One other method of healing is called EFT. Although EFT is often thought of as a method of healing emotional issues, it can also be very effective in healing physical issues. This is especially true because in some cases an underlying emotional issue will manifest as a physical ailment. We see this a lot when we’re dealing with chronic long-term ailments. Other types of popular natural healing methods include acupressure, herbal healing and massage. For a complete list of methods you can go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_forms_of_alternative_medicine .
To find local natural healers I would suggest you search the Internet for terms such as “natural healing”, “natural healers”, etc. followed by your area. Or, search for the type of healer you’re looking for, and see if there is a Website that has a directory listing that type of healer.
Exploring natural healing can be an exciting adventure, as you make your journey to discover either the cure for your ailment or else to find ways to help you have a life full of health and energy. Happy exploring!
